Ex-Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Shepelev arrested until April 8, the Agency UNIAN.
The former MP was arrested on Thursday. According to media reports, he fled to Ukraine from Russia, where he was declared internationally wanted under the case about the bribe to the official.
The Pechersk district court which considered the petition of Prosecutor”s office about the arrest Shepeleva, he said that shortly before his detention, he was kidnapped and beaten by unknown persons, who introduced themselves as employees of military Prosecutor”s office.
Earlier Shepelev was declared in the international wanted list by Ukraine. He is suspected of embezzlement of public funds in especially large sizes and attempt at murder. Shepelev was arrested in Hungary and then was extradited to his homeland. Later, the ex-Deputy fled from the Kiev hospital, after which he was detained in Russia.
The Prosecutor General’s office of Russia in the summer of 2017 reported that discusses the results Shepeleva Ukraine. Then he was released. According to the former head of the penitentiary service of Ukraine Stepan is Old, it happened because of the inaction of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s office and the Ministry of justice in the matter of extradition.
