The press service of the Ministry of industry and trade of the Russian Federation reported that to date, Russia has destroyed 99% of its stockpile of chemical weapons, reports TASS.
The progress in destruction of chemical weapons in Syria
“As of June 26, 2017 in the Russian Federation destroyed 39 561 t of toxic substances or 99%”, — stated in the message Department.
It is noted that in 2016 the destruction of chemical weapons carried out only on the object “Kizner” in Udmurtiya. Since 19 June of the current year experts have started the destruction of artillery ammunition and equipment of toxic substances VI-x, and from July on the object will launch a case for the destruction of munitions with lewisite.
We will remind that on January 13, 1993, the Russian Federation has signed the Convention on the prohibition of chemical weapons. The document was ratified on 5 November 1997. According to the international obligations, chemical weapons in Russia must be completely destroyed until 31 December 2018.
