How to measure the strength of earthquakes?
An 8.2 magnitude earthquake struck Tuesday off the coast of Alaska. The result has been declared tsunami threat.
Initially, the U.S. Geological survey reported that the magnitude of the tremors was 8.0, but later evaluation of improved, reports TASS.
It is noted that the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Gulf of Alaska in 278 km South-East of the city of Kodiak. The focus lies at a depth of 19 km under the sea bed.
The threat of a tsunami declared for the States of Alaska, Washington and Hawaii, and the Pacific coast of Canada.
