The roundtable, which held the first Deputy Chairman of the Duma Committee on education and science, coordinator of the “Environmental education” of the Federal party project “Ecology of Russia” Gennady Onishchenko, was what is called a sold out. The hall was left vacant seats and the number of speakers exceeded three dozen. Among them were deputies of the State Duma, teachers of schools and of universities, students — future ecologists, representatives of business and media.
The roundtable participants discussed how to make Russian education “green”, how to adapt it to the needs of a green economy. They shared thoughts and experiences about how to build a chain of ecological education and education “School — University — employer”, and outlined the main goal: an environmentally literate youth.
Today 73 University of the country conduct training on various environmental disciplines, but among who chose this direction — only 4% of students. “This is a very low indicator”, — said Irina Manuilova, Deputy Director of Department of state policy in the sphere of higher education, Ministry of education and science of the Russian Federation. She believes that environmental education should be obligatory and continuous.
Environmental issues need to integrate into all curricula. To implement this idea can teachers of any profession, unless they are willing to transfer environmental knowledge and skills.

According to Alexander Fokin, a member of the Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on ecology and environmental protection, eco-education is impossible without a proper strategy.
We have already created the basic laws in this field, but for Russia’s transition to sustainable development requires to take additional measures for the development of a Strategy for environmental education and enlightenment in Russia. Alexander Fokin proposed to introduce into the school curriculum the classroom environment as a compulsory subject: “Russia is the largest boiler, which “cooks” the climate. In these circumstances, it is important to create an ecologically literate generation who understands the importance of preserving the environment.”
The General Director of Corporation “Russian textbook” Alexander Brichkin believes that it is necessary to change the Federal state educational standards (FSES) to the school level, environmental education has increased: “we need not only knowledge but also skills of how to behave and to act successfully in daily life with understanding of how people in society relate to each other and to natural systems, how they can make this relationship sustainable.”
The representative of JSC “RUSAL” Alexey Spirin has declared that their holding today requires environmental engineers (young professionals) and finding them is not so easy. Executive Director of the Foundation “Russian carbon” Alexey Shadrin believes that the universities environmental subjects should be mandatory for all students. According to representatives of big business, modern businesses are in need of the ecologists, who are able to make competent design decisions.
The famous TV presenter Nikolai Drozdov told about the project United Russia “Ecology of Russia” and the Russian national environmental lessons for schoolchildren “let’s Do it together!” in which took part more than a million boys and girls throughout Russia. The idea belonged to the chief of staff of the party project “Ecology of Russia” Roman Romanov. “The initiative was supported by Gennady Onishchenko, head the direction of “Environmental education” of the party project, continued Nicholas. — Sure, plans on environmental education and education, scheduled for 2018, will be successful and will bring double results.”
