In 2018 Ukraine will resume gas purchases from Russia. The head of “Naftogaz” Andrey KOBOLEV explained by the fact that the Ukrainian company believes an attractive cost of fuel, proposed by Gazprom after the decision of the Stockholm arbitration.
KOBOLEV noted that in 2018 the country will need to select minimum volume. “We are in the “Naftogaz” we do not consider the negative aspect of the obligation of Gazprom to sell us five billion cubic meters of gas below the European price, we believe this is a positive aspect,” — said the head of the concern at a press conference, reports RIA Novosti.
Ukraine rejected Russian gas in November 2015, after which started to purchase fuel in reverse in Slovakia, Poland and Hungary. Initially, the Ukrainian government claimed that gas from Europe is cheaper, but later in the “Naftogaz” declared that “Gazprom” offers “blue fuel” on more attractive terms.
In December 2017 the Stockholm arbitration court has put an end to the dispute between “Gazprom” and “Naftogaz”. The court obliged the Ukrainian company to buy from Russia not less than five billion cubic meters of gas per year. Besides, “Naftogaz” will pay to “Gazprom” two billion dollars of debt for supplied raw materials. For each day of delay in payment (from 22 Dec) the Ukrainian side will pay 600 thousand dollars.
