President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko called the basis of Moscow “the rash decision of ancient princes,” and stated that the establishment of an independent Orthodox Church, “to restore historical justice”. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

Earlier this week, politician said about the intention to apply to the Patriarchate of Constantinople with a request to allow Kiev to create one local Autocephalous Church. He reported that the Synod can make a decision until July 28, and asked the Parliament to support his appeal.

The Parliament complied with the request of the President. Voted 268 deputies with the required minimum of 226 votes. Now Poroshenko is going to pass the appeal to the Patriarch of Constantinople.
