ROC published a book on assistance to alcoholics and co-dependent relatives

A new methodical manual on the help alcohol-addicted people and their relatives have released the Synodal Department for charity of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC).

In the book, the priest and psychologist, who are specialists in rehabilitation of alcohol addicted, talk about the main mistakes that close in relationship with the addicted person.

The authors believe that the co-dependency of relatives is a disease along with alcoholism. According to the head of the coordinating center to combat alcoholism and approval of the sobriety of the Synodal Department for charity Valeria Doronkina, relatives and friends have a much greater impact on the alcoholic, rather than doctors and psychologists.

The expert is confident that with the right behavior and attitude to illness of the dependent person, relatives is able to induce the patient to recovery.

The Handbook also describes the various forms of assistance alcohol-dependent people. In particular, the Church temperance, individual classes with a psychologist and others. The book can be downloaded free at the website of the Synodal Department for charity.

The press service of the Russian Orthodox Church said that today in Russia there are more than 500 Orthodox organizations, rehabilitation centers and parishes that help alcoholics and their relatives.
