This protein can be used to treat anemia, cancer, and accelerate the healing of bone fractures. The results of their work, a group of scientists published in the journal Biochemistry.

This protein is produced in the kidney, its main function is to stimulate the formation of red blood cells in the human body. Due to this property it is widely used for medicinal purposes.

At the moment, already have the technology to create this protein, but the resulting substance contains carbohydrates. Russian scientists have learned to produce highly purified erythropoietin by the method of synthesis in cells of Escherichia coli. In this synthesis, the protein has a lower molecular weight.

According to scientists, their method is part of a larger project to develop a new implantable material for reconstructive surgery.
