The trial of “Angarsk maniac” partially held behind closed doors

The so-called “Angarsk maniac” Mikhail Popkov will be considered in a partially closed regime, reports RIA Novosti with reference to the Irkutsk regional court.

The trial began on 28 December. The meetings will be closed when considering episodes of crimes associated with rape or forcible actions of a sexual nature.

According to the interlocutor of the Agency, 10 January the meeting will begin behind closed doors, “because the issue positions of the victims”.

The result of The first meeting of the court was the extension of the arrest until 15 June 2018. The case materials are 322 volume.

Former police officer from Angarsk was detained in 2012, and in 2015 the Irkutsk regional court sentenced him to life in prison for 22 murders. In the spring of 2017 Popkov was charged another 60 crimes. He confessed to each of them.

December 15, the investigative authorities announced that it completed the investigation of another case against Popkov. The Irkutsk oblast Prosecutor”s office said that with the approved indictment was sent to court.
